About Us

Custodians

Barnham Manor has been proudly family owned and run since 2003. Our owners prefer to see themselves as custodians of the home, and our management team is committed and completely dedicated to the care and well being of all of our residents, taking a very special pride in the day to day running of the home and dealing with any and all issues that may arise straight away.

Our management team brings together many years of experience in NHS nursing and care, along with specialist knowledge in finance and business, which has ensured that Barnham Manor is managed in an efficient and professional manner. Among the many upgrades that have been overseen here are the full renovation of the home itself as well as the landscaping of the large and beautiful adjoining gardens.

Care Staff

We invest in full training for all of our Care Staff, ensuring that everyone who works at Barnham Manor shares the same goals in caring and supporting both the residents as well as each other in the day to day running of the home.

Our commitment to their training and job progression ensures that we have a happy team with, as a consequence, a very low turnover of staff members. This ensures continuity in our high standards of work plus the comfort of day to day contact with familiar and trusted faces which we find is so important for all of our residents.

Care Staff Training

We have a robust in-house training plan in place for all members of our Care Team, which is planned, delivered and reviewed on an on-going basis.

External professionals visit Barnham Manor regularly to oversee and run specialised training courses (eg) manual lifting and handling, fire safety and job relevant NVQ’s.

Activities Co-Ordinator

Activities are an essential part of the quality of daily life and wellbeing of our residents at Barnham Manor.

Our own in-house Coordinator, Sarah, develops activities to cover everyone’s interests both in group sessions and individual time.  We create a feeling of community and mutual support giving space for listening and chatting as well as planned and focused activities.  These cover a wide range including;

Arts & Crafts - Board games & Floor games - Celebrations & Commemorations – Contemplation – Discussions – Exercises - Mental games & Quizzes - Music & Dance – Relaxation Sessions.

To complement traditional activities, residents can also use the ‘Activitouch’ interactive touch screen table which  combines games and stimulating activities with the latest technology including a built-in video calling facility.

Sarah is a professional Voice Movement Therapist which is a creative arts therapy. With over twenty years expertise in working with older people including those who have dementia, Sarah also understands the importance of making time to listen and just be with people, to sit quietly, sometimes finding other ways to communicate where speaking and language may have been lost.

Activities are inclusive so no matter what someone’s abilities are, a way will always be found to enable them to join in.

Further expanding the choices on offer we invite other professionals to visit each week:

Activities with Sarah - A variety of activities, prompting memory, discussions and enjoyment of things remembered.

Tony The Flower Man – These therapeutic gardening sessions bring the outside in, touching and feeling the plants, their textures and scents, planting and caring for them and expanding our gardening knowledge. Our residents enjoy getting their hands in the earth and being part of nature  throughout the four seasons of the year.

Henry The Music Man - Brings a range of songs and acoustic music played on piano accordion and guitar. Residents are free to sing, dance or just sit and listen as they choose.

Our Local Reverend - Enjoys a long-standing relationship with Barnham Manor. Regular visits and monthly communions are an important aspect of the emotional and spiritual wellbeing of our residents, as well as their families and our staff.

Chefs

Our in-house chefs specialise in serving healthy home cooked food using locally sourced meats, vegetables and fruit. All of our menus are nutritionally balanced  and aim at offering as wide and varied a selection of meals as possible.

Derek has 36 years experience working as a  Chef, the last sixteen of which have been spent working in care homes. He is committed to using fresh and local products whenever possible including in his home made cakes and biscuits which are always very popular with residents, staff and visitors!

He caters for all diets and dietary preferences, including diabetic and gluten free.

Aneta had previously been working as the full time chef for another care home before coming to Barnham Manor to work at weekends for us as well as supporting and covering for Derek whenever needed.

Our breakfasts and suppers are served either in residents' rooms or in the dining room, whilst we encourage all residents to gather  for lunch in the dining room from 11:30 to 12:30 daily in what is always a lively and very sociable get together.

Every resident has a bespoke dietary sheet of food made up for them when they arrive at Barnham Manor and we are easily able to cater for any specialist needs or requests they might have.

We always enjoy marking seasonal events at Barnham Manor and a decorated dining room will be the busy hub at Barnham Manor at special times of the year such as Easter and Christmas. We have also celebrated many national events in the dining room, including, most recently, the Coronation of HM King Charles III.
